Karl Eduard von Liphart (1808-1891) (Lugt 1687), sold 5 December and 5 following days, 1876, C. G. Boerner, Leipzig, lot 414, 2310 Marks (£115 10s)
The print was apparently taken from an engraved decoration, perhaps a hat badge or sword pommel. This explains the reversal of the superscription above Christ and the positions of the Virgin andf St John (St John on the left, the Virgin on the right), contrary to traditional compositional practice.
