Painted for Mme. Bonaparte
Native to Australia. This was named by Ventenat. He states that in winter it was kept indoors in an Orangery and produced flowers in summer. The details show: 1, flower from below; 2, same without stamens and with the petals straightened out to show their insertion and their shape; 3, petal from within; 4, same, from without; 5, enlarged ovary, cut crosswise to show three loculaments, two shown empty, the third with several seeds. A print after this drawings was published in Ventenat's 'Jardin de la Malmaison', Paris, An XI , pl. 5.
