Notes:

From the series Shinagawa hakkei (Eight views of Shinagawa). Shuncho’s prints in this style and format are almost indistinguishable from those of Kiyonaga. Few facts are recorded about Shuncho’s life. He was a pupil of Katsukawa Shunsho in the early 1780s, but unusually for a Katsukawa pupil he designed no actor prints. In the mid-1780s, like nearly every other artist in Edo, he was influenced by the elegant prints of Kiyonaga.
