The lettering in the margin of Godfrey's engraving reads: (dedication) "To the Right Honorable VISCOUNTESS FITZ-WILLIAMS, this Plate Engraved from an Original PICTURE in her Ladyships Possessions is most / Respectfully Dedicated by her Ladyships obliged humble serv.t – Rich.d Barnard Godfrey. - " (Below this text in two columns:) "The picture, of which this Engraving is an exact Copy, come from the Palace at Richmond is now the Property of Lady Fitz-williams daughter of Sr Matthew Decker who purchased it, it hangs with its companion at her house in Richmond Green. It was painted by Vinckenboom & most probably done in the beginning of the Reign of Charles the 1st, the Dresses of the Figures point / to this for some of the Ruffs are horizontal some falling the latter of which fashion came in at that period. The state of the Buildings, the Dresses of the Figures, the Group of Morris Dancers, The Coach, the Boats &c, are portraits curious as matter of Antiquity. / Published as the Act directs Jan 1st 1774, by S. Hooper No. 25 Ludgate hill."
