Description(s):

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, eyelet, satin, tent, double running and stem stitch with some silver metal thread embroidery. The sampler is divided into eleven bands containing floral repeat patterns, the Lord's Prayer and religious verses.
Yellow linen band sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, eyelet, satin, tent, double running and stem stitch. Silver metal thread is worked in satin and stem stitch. There is a plain selvedge at the bottom; the three other edges are hemmed. The sampler is divided into eleven horizontal bands by narrow repeating border patterns. Four sections containing repeat floral border patterns. The widest section has a central panel containing the Lord's Prayer flanked by angels blowing trumpets and holding palms. The remaining section carries the inscriptions 'LOVe The Lord aND He WIll Be a FaIthFUll/Father VNto Thee/''WorldlING BeWare BetIM/es Death scurKs BehIND Th/ee aNd as She Leaves Theee/SO WIll IUdGMeNt FINd The/','IF All MaNKINd WOUld LIVe IN MUtUal LOVe ThIS/WOrld WOUld MUCh ReSeMBLe That aBOVe', 'Be YOU TO Others KINd aND TrU as Youd have/Others Be TO YOU','Wealth MaY TaKe WINGS aND RIches FlYY/aWaY BUt God Is a ROCK That Never WIl Deca',' MarY BreWItt her WOrK BeING Made 1725'.
