Description:

Linen band sampler embroidered in polychrome silks in double running, cross, Montenegrin cross, two-sided Italian cross, satin, counted satin, Algerian eye, stem, whipped stem and trellis stitch with bullion knots, some couching and detached needlepoint filling stitches. All the edges are hemmed. The sampler is divided into fourteen horizontal bands of repeat floral border patterns, some including raised and detached work with a complex pattern filling the widest band. The bottom three bands contain an alphabet and the inscription 'M W 1669'.
